Minna and the Canine Club’s Teaching Tip:
For the next several weeks, let’s focus on reading strategies that improve student reading. This week, the focus is MAKING CONNECTIONS!
It is so important for kids to be able to make connections while they read. These connections can be text to self, text to text, or text to world. The most basic of these is text to self. Sadly, we have lost this exciting part of reading and showing children how they can relate to books.
Here are some great books for kids to use for making all sorts of different connections:
-Ira Sleeps Over by Bernard Waber
-You are Special by Max Lucado
-Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts
–The Name Jar by Yangsook Choi
–Follow the Drinking Gourd by Jeanette Winter
